Introducing "Third Time Thru"

About Third Time Thru

This page last modified Jan 2004
Third Time Thru is a working Rock 'n Roll band made up of a bunch of folks most of whom haven't given up their day jobs. This year we temporarily had to close the T.T.T commune, where we practice all day long, when Merri decided music couldn't be a full time career. However that didn't last long. Merri is more of a night person and couldn't handle waking up to work during the daytime. After a few months, she moved back in to the commune.

You probably know us from other bands we've been in. Some of us used to be with Merri and the 4 Skins. If you're lucky you'll see popup captions if you place the mouse over a picture. Most of us were in J.T. Black and Merri's Boyz. We were once almost known as Yehuda and the Gefilte Fish. Andy used to play lead guitar for Strollin' While We Can. Merri, like Madonna, Elvis, Prince, and Melonie, is one of the few performers who is immediately recognizable by her first name. In her solo career, playing for the old and young (old age homes and puppet shows) she was known as ... Merri. Now that she's joined T.T.T, she's known as the artist formerly known as ... Merri. Robert used to have a lead part with Marcia and Friends until Marcia and all her friends bailed out. Glenn and Alan banged keyboards and frets for Rhone and the Poulencs. Andy played synth for Christine and the Al Kayda Network. Daniel was bassman for MaJe until the leader decided completely screw the rest of the band by going back to Berkeley College of Music. Before that Daniel was with MoJo Blues Band until he found he disliked blues as much as he dislikes country and reggae. That leaves 2 songs that Daniel, Merri and Andy can all agree on. We hope to learn both of those songs soon. For a short time, Robert and Andy made up the core of the foursome known as the Jody Page Trio.

After a year and a half of changing bass players and drummers, we seemed to have settled down this year. Daniel, while not exactly thrilled with the music we play, has settled in on bass. Alan, our experiment with adding a 2nd lead guitarist, also worked out and he's here to stay. We seemed to have successfully tricked Dave back into the band full time.

2003 Highlights The most memorable events of 2003 include:

  • We learned some country songs for Erica's wedding. One band member didn't care for that style of music
  • Daniel threatened to take Merri outside and beat her up for saying that he was playing the wrong notes. He wasn't playing the wrong notes. Rather he was playing something completely tasteless. There's a difference. If you don't believe me, I'll punch you... even if I am twenty years younger than you and I'm a guy, and you're a gal. TTT does not discriminate based on age or sex.
  • Two days before the biggest gig of the band's career (Erica's wedding) Merri went to the doctor and found out she had ruptured her vocal chords. We had a few worried days, but Merri decided to go ahead and do the gig anyway. She pulled it off. She didn't sound any worse than usual.
  • We came out with a complete DVD set documenting the band's history since our first hit in 1993
  • Keith put together a crappy first draft of songs we recorded before we kicked him out of the band. We never expect to hear the final version.
  • A squirrel almost drowned at Robert's pool party. Some kids saved it and then jumped in the pool even though it was only about 50 degrees.
  • Glenn sold more equipment than he bought. We think that was to support his horse habit.
  • Alan got tourista in Mexico but still made the Sunday practice.

Bass Players:
We've been thru so many bass players that they deserve their own section.

John Wolk, used to play bass with us. Unfortunately he had a lot of trouble remembering to come to practices. In 2001 a tribe of pigs flew over his house and stole all his equipment. So we had to let John go back to selling paint. (The pigs didn't steal the paint... it figures.) Ted Buckner replaced John on Bass. Ted's a real musician who actually has a gig with another band. Unfortunately Ted found he couldn't handle two bands. So he gave up music entirely.
Then Mark Kramer played with us until he got laid off and had to move out of town.
Then Paul Graf did a gig with us. He is currently woodshedding.
We were giving Lang (bless his heart) a chance, but he flew the coop at the first sign of competition.
We played with Bob Blair one time. He sounded pretty good and we had high hopes. As soon as Bob read this website and found out we wanted him because he works for Associated Sound Products and that we wanted to raid his store to create the TTT smoke and light show, he told us to take a hike.
In our latest act of desperation, we raided the young, multi-talented Daniel Marks from Maje. We just hope he doesn't explode or drown in someone else's vomit.

We like to play together every few weeks. We'd prefer to play more often, but its too hard to get us all in the same place at the same time. When we run short of band members, Will (Man) Williams might promise to come sit in (but he usually doesn't) or Henry Miller plays drums with us if we get him a chauffeured limo for the ride home afterwards. We won't play for you however, unless you're in the family or ...or you pay us a small fortune.

Our lineup includes 2 or 3 lead singers, a keyboard player, a bass player, a drummer, 2 lead guitars, 3 or 4 guitars, 4 back up singers, harmonica, and 2 more guys that sing well enough that we're going to take up a collection and buy them some mics. In addition we've got a cowbell, a guerro, knockers (2 sets), tambourines, an egg and a banana! Between Glenn, Andy and Alan we've got the most amazing collection of electronic equipment you've ever seen in a band that plays as infrequently as we do.
